STANDARD II

Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments

Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the Standards-S.

  • Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity

  • Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress

  • Customize and personalize learning activities to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources

  • Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards, and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching

Reflection

Digital Storyboard.  Standard II encourages teachers to think outside the box in an effort to reach the digital native children we encounter on a day-to-day basis.  In our district, the reading fair is often a requirement at the classroom level.  Many students struggle because they feel their creativity is being stifled when they are forced to create projects using construction paper, glue, and a big piece of cardboard.  The digital storyboard offers those children and many more the opportunities to explore their creative sides and learn to use various tools.  Students can attach links and drop videos into the projects.  There are also many other ways they can make the project their own.

Diigo.  Diigo is used for a host of reasons.  It is a site that offers a place to build a great bibliography based on whatever a person needs.  Teachers as well as students can use Diigo for research purposes.  They can also use it to compile resources for upcoming lessons.

Microsoft 365 Education Portal.  There is basically no limit to the various ways the programs and apps in this suite can be used.  With so many different apps, students and teachers have the options to customize and personalize learning activities on a regular basis.  One student or one group of students may decide to complete a project using Excel and sharing the results with others, while another group may decide to create a document in Word and insert a table to share those same results.  Throughout the summer, I became quite familiar with Microsoft 365 Education Portal.  I used a number of the apps and programs.

Future Learning Goal

I plan to help as many people as possible who are eligible to use the Microsoft 365 Education Portal actually use it.  There are far too many educators who don't know about these great resources.  Personally, I would like to learn to use all the available features of Microsoft 365.  I would also like to get Microsoft certifications to match the various applications.
