STANDARD I

Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity

Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.

  • Promote, support and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness

  • Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources

  • Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes

  • Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments

Reflection

Dream! Explore! Think outside the box! All of these are things we say when we want to get students to try new and different things.  Often they are more willing to change than we are as adults.  At one point or another each of the artifacts here was new to me.  New means different, but different doesn't have to mean bad.  As we age, we sometimes lose our creative sides.  Standard I is about helping students find and keep their creative sides.  It's also about them using those sides once they get into the "real" world.

IT645 Learning Portfolio.  This particular "portfolio" was actually a blog of sorts I had to do for one of my classes.  At that time, I think blogging was fairly new to me, but I was open for the challenge.  Being a novice journal writer, blogging appealed to my record keeping side.  However, my lack of discipline for the daily upkeep, made the idea of blogging on a regular basis not so appealing.

B.E. C.A.R.E.F.U.L.  "B.E. C.A.R.E.F.U.L. is an Emaze presentation created to give students presentation pointers.  Although students as young as first grade are able to create PowerPoints, many people struggle when it's time to give presentations.  This presentation reminds students of some pertinent do's and don'ts.

Lose the Paper.  "Lose the Paper" is an online course that will eventually take the place of the paper-laden, cumbersome "Senior Project".  As a paperless version of a project that gives students a chance to research and learn about real world issues, the course will help students learn to apply their acquired knowledge to the world around them.

Future Learning Goal

I would love to be more disciplined and blog on a regular basis.  Perhaps, I could even be paid to blog one day.  I would also like to really map out "Lose the Paper" and help the Seniors have a truly paperless experience.  As a librarian, I want to do more collaborating with other educators to help my students get a richer learning experience.
